The Academic Society’s (AF) daily activities are lead by an administration comprised of three elected student representatives that work on the third floor in the tower of AF-borgen. The elected students assume the rolls of Operations Manager, Communications Manager and Program Manager. The administration also includes the infamous “Edil”, who is the contact person for tenants of AF-borgen, and the Housing Ombudsman (with the official title of Bomben), who is the student’s representative at AF Bostäder (the student housing association).
The Academic Society is lead by a Board of Directors, which is advised by a Council (överstyrelse). The Academic Society’s council is made up of representatives from Lund student organizations.
AF Borgen AB
Since the 1990′s, AF-borgen (AF Castle located in Lundagård) has been a firm called, AF Borgen AB, and the Academic Society is the sole owner of all shares. The AF-borgen board is comprised of both business and student representatives and is elected by the council of the Academic Society.
There are many rooms available to rent for events, parties and conferences in the AF-borg. These are available to everyone, including private persons, associations and businesses interested in renting the premises. AF Bostäder
The AF Bostäder Foundation has the job of providing cost efficient housing to active students who are members of the Academic Society in Lund. To join the queue to receive housing with AF Bostäder you must be a member of Studentlund.
Within the foundation of AF Bostäder there is a Housing Ombudsman (Bomben), who is a student chosen by the Academic Soceity’s council, and holds this service position for 1 year.
Historia
The aim was to include everyone involved with the university in one society, that would act as a home for all students, teachers, and alumni.
The Academic Society was founded in Lund in 1830, based on the Ango-Saxo college stystem. The aim was to include everyone involved with the university in one society, that would act for a home for all students, teachers, and former students. With the motto, “coniuncta valent” – the united are strong- the society has created an unparalleled social and cultural centre. The AF-borg is not only home to the Academic Society, but also to several independent student organizations, such as the student union’s umbrella organization, LUS, and the nations collegiate of curators, KK.
